A little decor. — January 22, 2014

A little decor.

A little decor.

My bedroom is so “ehhh” at school. I have seen so many awesome creations on Pinterest with wine bottles so I decided to save a few up and come up with something I love. I wrapped one of the wine bottles with twine. I used hot glue every so often to secure the twine in place – I won’t lie to you, it was a pain in the ass.

I am debating on whether or not I should put glitter on one of the other bottles to add some bling and variety. Or wrapping the other two bottles in twine. For now I like the different colors of the bottles.

New Years Resolutions — December 31, 2013

New Years Resolutions

First off, “What’s your New Year’s Resolution?” Is quite possibly the most aggravating question there is. No matter what kind of answer I come up with I can’t help but feel stupid or judged by someone, and deep down I know I will probably stop keeping up with my resolution after a couple weeks or month at best. Last year “no fast food” lasted about a month before I stopped thinking about it and caved.

After growing and coming to the realization that a “new years resolution” means a lot more than just saying to lose “X” pounds, I have made a list of 7 simple things to make 2014 the best year yet.

1. Technology
Too often I am with other people whether it is my friends, family or strangers on public transportation and see people on their phones or other technological devices. These people drive me nuts! Am I really that boring that you can’t hangout or have a phone less conversation with me? I have to admit to that I can be horrible with technology as well and am at fault; but when you see people who don’t look up from their smart phones or even acknowledge someone… it breaks my heart. Take time to actually be there when you are with friends and family. Listen to what they have to say and be engaged in the conversation. If you are on your phone the whole night someone is going to assume you’re not interested and don’t give a rat’s ass about them. Don’t be surprised if they start doing the same to you. It’s not that hard to disconnect even for a short time. I’m not saying you aren’t allowed to be on your phone, just be sure you are actually present when with other people.

2. Family & Friends
As I have gotten older I have had many ups and downs with friends. There are people who come around when it is convenient for them or take advantage of you or people who are full of drama. Take my advice it will save you a lot of heart ache: forget them. Stop taking time reaching out to people who continue to hurt you and manipulate you and hangout when it is “convenient” for them. The friends that continue to reach out to you, who are there for you and who put in an honest effort to be in your life, KEEP THEM.
Family. I have been blessed with a terrific family. When you are home visiting family actually do things with them. When it comes down to it, you are stuck with them whether you like it or not. They are the only people who will love you no matter what and never stop loving you.

3. Success
Dream Big. Need I say more? Set goals for yourself and push yourself. Use your resources, network with people to better yourself. Don’t settle for what is familiar and what is easy. In 2013 I made a point to shoot high and to be successful and I did a damn good job doing so. If you fall short of a goal you set don’t lose hope, use it as motivation to keep going. I recommend this to everyone no matter your age, you will surprise yourself with how successful you can be.

4. Love yourself
I am nearly 6 foot tall (yes, I do realize that is tall for a girl) I used to cringe when someone would come up to me and say “whoa, you’re tall,” thank you captain obvious. As I have grown as a person and became more confident I have learned to love my body. I have killer long ass legs which I love to flaunt around. My boyfriend is the same height as me and I have no problem wearing heels and being taller than him. No matter how tall, short, thick or thin you are, the key to your happiness is to love yourself the way you are.

Spend some time disconnected from the world, no phone, no laptop no television and just think. You will learn so much about yourself. You need that quiet “me” time every once in a while to clear your mind

5. Say Thank-You
Pick up the phone and call someone you haven’t spoken with in a while. Contrary to what you believe, you don’t need a reason to call. Have a light hearted conversation and say thanks tell them you have been thinking of them. I want to reiterate one point: Pick up the phone and call. Yes call, DO NOT text them. It is much more meaningful to put in a little extra effort and call someone. I for one absolutely love getting phone calls from friends and family members out of the blue, it means the world to me.

6. Forgive
Its about time you let go that grudge you’ve been holding for a month, year or couple years. Life is too short to be mad at someone and keep it with you. Forgiving someone after they hurt you is one of the hardest things in life. By forgiving people you will be more positive and optimistic in your daily life.

7. Grow in Faith
Go to church, read the bible, research your faith, if your lost find God, seek help. Take the time out of your daily life to pray and to open your heart to God. There is so much to learn. Most importantly share stories about your faith and God’s word.

Here’s to making 2014 the best year yet.

Snowmen Paintings

Happy Holiday! I love this time of the year and especially more so now that I am done with my exams and classes for the fall semester, which means I am officially a senior at Michigan State University. GO GREEN!!!

To celebrate the end of the semester I decided to work on some holiday canvas’ for my family. My My mom adores snowmen, so of course that was my theme this year.

Simple Holiday Decor

Hi Friends!

I love this time of year!!
Just like every other holiday I like to decorate and the time I take to relax and decorate my apartment. My apartment is plain with lightly painted walls, appliances and cupboards so I wanted to do something small to spice up the place and show a little holiday cheer.

I started watching Elf the other night and was inspired from the “North Pole” scene when Will Farrell decorated Gimbel’s to resemble the North Pole.

While decorating I cut strips the long way on standard sized white paper. Once the strips were cut (5-6/sheet of paper) I attached them with a small piece of tape and linked them together as a chain. I also cut out multiple snow flakes and hung them from the chains!

This DIY holiday decorating craft is so simple and fun to have a wine night with your roommates or have your children/husband help you decorate. I highly encourage listening to Christmas music while singing and dancing – you’d be surprised what a great mood it will put you in!Image

DIY Natural Hair Waves — November 22, 2013

DIY Natural Hair Waves

I am going to start off by saying how happy I am that today is almost over! I had two cumulative finals today (a few weeks before final week) which made it even more stressful. On the bright side half of my finals are done already!

I’m looking forward to my date I have scheduled with a large glass of wine in a little bit. 🙂

Today I am going to share a really fun hair style that I just recently tried for the first time and LOVED the way it turned out. I have pin straight hair. If anyone else like me has very silky hair that can be a pain to curl I have found the solution.

I love to curl my hair with my curling iron or wear it wavy with my straightener but I have never been able to curl my hair and make it look messy and natural.

This first picture is quite horrible quality – my roommate was gone so I took it selfie style. Believe me when I say it is really difficult to take a picture of your whole head. To achieve the buns on the top of your head I sectioned off my hair and twisted the sections around until the roots started to twist. I secured a couple bobbie pins in a “X” under each bun to secure it in place. Image

I slept in the buns over night and was sure that my hair was basically already dry so in the morning I wouldn’t have to blow dry it. Once I woke up I unsecured each bun and ran my fingers through each section and got a messy curl which I loved. I love seeing people with really full hair with a lot of body so I got the perfect results!

I threw a sparkly gold headband on and teased the back of my crown to give it a little edge.

Hope you like it!

Dandelion Canvas — November 17, 2013

Dandelion Canvas

Dandelion Canvas

I LOVE acrylic paints.
This canvas was extremely simple to paint. My favorite part was the background. I had SO much fun blending the colors and mixing them around to get the mysterious effect. The color scheme is really pretty. I am a very colorful person though, I wonder what it would look like if I had used different shades of blue.

If anyone tries to paint this canvas I would love to see what it looks like with a different colored background!

– Happy Sunday –

Exciting Changes. — November 15, 2013

Exciting Changes.

Hi friends,

As many of you know I am new to the blogging world. One of my biggest
struggles was trying to decide the type of blog I wanted to have.
I am passionate about so many things so limiting myself to a “theme”
was just too hard. Why do I have to do the norm and have a blog solely
about crafting, crocheting, fashion, hairstyles, writing or food.

Today I finally made the decision to make some changes to my blog
that I am happy with. I changed my blog title to “A Dash Of Everything”
which fits my blog perfectly. I am so excited about the new culture and
themes of my blog.

I hope you all find some exciting things on here that is inspiring for you.

I can hardly wait to publish my next post!

Scarfs Galore! — November 12, 2013

Scarfs Galore!

Happy Tuesday!
We had our first snowfall yesterday and it was absolutely beautiful! I am not one to like snow coming this early in the year, but I won’t lie – I rather enjoyed the beauty of it. Lucky for me, the weather is supposed to be warming up later this week to the 40s. I could use some more Fall before Winter takes over!

If you haven’t realized yet, I love scarfs. Today I am going to share a couple different ways I like to wear my scarfs. For those of you who have scarfs and are unsure of how to wear them I hope this helps!Image

Start with your scarf folded in half around your neck.Image

Take one strand from the scarf and pull it through the loop. ImageImage

Pull the other long strand over the looped pieces and through the lop hole again by pushing it through toward your body.Image
And viola! This is a simple knotted scarf that I wear all the time.Image
Pictured below is the same knotted scarf with the ends tucked beck through the knot again to make a fuller look. I especially love this look when I am wearing a coat. Image
This picture is a basic way to wear a scarf, this is a style I see most often, I came up with a way to make the scarf seem fuller and not so flat. Once I wrap the scarf around my neck I like to pull the ends back over the middle part which creates a fuller look.

Crochet Hats! — November 3, 2013

Crochet Hats!

I love when fall and winter roll around to bundle up and wear layers. I especially love to wear hats. This fall I decided to try to crochet my own hats. I chose to make mine green and white of course (GO STATE!) The hat turned out so well I decided to make a matching one for my boyfriend (who literally wears his all the time).

More and more people have been asking me to make them one as well, I think the hats would be a prefect christmas gift for people. I’m thinking I will make them for my friends and make their hats out of their college colors.

If anyone loves to crochet and wants a fun stocking stuffer idea this is perfect!! I absolutely love my hat I made for myself!

Painted flower canvas —

Painted flower canvas

It was just one of my best friends birthday’s so I decided to paint her a fun canvas to go with her gift. After a little exploring on a few “brush studio” websites and a few friends work from art school I was inspired and decided to give it a whirl! I’m pretty happy with how the painting turned out, this was the first time I had ever painted something like this. Let me know what you think!
